I've lived in this hole now for ten long dreary years
I never knew nothing and I cried so many tears
my landlord came round and this is what he said
if you don't like it son go elsewhere instead
he's a mean old landlord and he aint no friend to me
being nice is too expensive you see
There's
people living here crowded just like hens
in a battery farm in cages like sheep in pens
there's some people sleeping out there in the streets
and there's old folks shivering in their cold cold sheets
there's some people sleeping on someone else's floor
you just can't find a place to live anymore
you come into this world - you've go nowhere else to go
and what do you see but some old landlord runs the show
he's got you working building houses then he takes it all away
and says it mine now, if you want it you've really gotta pay
And
he's really got you paying, paying till you die
paying till you finally reach your home up in the sky
he's got you tied up in his contracts, the law is on his side
and brother if you disagree, if you're disastisfied
you better move on and find yourself another piece of ground
How much can you take of this being pushed around?
The roof was falling in and the walls was falling out
the place was so damp I was swimming all about
the window frames were rotten and the wind was blowing through
I got so cold my skin was turning blue
well there comes a time when you can't take no more of this shit
and I'm getting the feeling I've had enough of it
now when you feel you've had enough and start to feeling all alone
you know you just can't make a move while you're out there on your own
you're gonna need to find a friend gonna lend a helping hand
coz when you just can't take no more you've gotta make a stand
